to washington, not until sunday, december 30th. now, 48 hours before the fiscal cliff goes over, is that really enough time to get legislation passed, if there's a real deal on the table? >> reporter: is it enough time? probably. if there's really something that is going to pass the senate, and this is a big if, as jessica said, the oddsmakers are definitely seeing the fiscal cliff happening, us going over the fiscal cliff, but if senate does pass something, that would be the next move, then the house could pretty easily take it up and pass it on sunday night or monday morning, on the actual day of december 31st. i think at this point, it's more of a question of optics, and democrats were definitely trying to take advantage today of the fact that the house republican -- the republican-led house, rather, is not here and won't be here until sunday. we all know that what happens here in washington, is that nothing really happens until they're really up against the deadline. that's why i'm also told by some democrats who really know what the process is going to be, if there is one, that they don't

the looming fiscal cliff, at least based on what they were saying. still, with so much uncertainty in washington, what will the markets look like tomorrow? let's break it all down. so, lots of market expectations on a deal. some good, some bad. alan, why don't you give your expectations on how you think stocks are going to open up tomorrow, based on what we have heard so far today? >> well, i thought it was an amazing come back we saw today. we you have a the bonds up half a percent, so, the safety buying was not sustained. we saw the market come all the way back and apple moved positive. i'm rather optimistic. we went up 5% in the s&p, going into this. going into this week. and i think that you've got to realize, this is the most analyzed fiscal situation in the history of the world. so, this is not a surprise. i'm still very positive. i'm looking for the s&p to rally, 130 points, which was the distance of that selloff that we saw to get up to 1600 once again and i look for it to go higher. >> jim, the house reconvenes sunday night. the senate squabbling right now. the president's

the fiscal cliff. think about what that says. think about that that says about this process, about the united states senate, 100 people elected to make big decisions to rainadvance the interests and pt this country on a better path, toward a better future that is more secure, more safe and more prosperous for our children and grand chi -- and grandchildren. that's what should have happened. but it should have happened months ago. so i hope we get a result here today that addresses some of these issues, certainly something that will address the tax issue. but, mr. president, that doesn't solve the problem. if the president gets everything he wants in new taxes, it funds the government for less than a week. this is not a revenue problem. washington doesn't tax too little. it spends too much. until we recognize that and deal with what is driving federal spending, we are going to continue to saddle future generations with more debt, with more liabilities, with a lower standard of living and a lower quality of life than we've experienced and that is not fair to emthis. it's time for us to demonstr
